Let's stay safe together
IHRSA 2021 ‒ the IHRSA International Convention & Trade Show ‒ is an important component for keeping the fitness industry fully operational and strong. Today, more than ever, the fitness industry is essential to public health. Health clubs ‒ and the professionals and suppliers who support them ‒ are indispensable to the ongoing effort to keep people healthy and safe from the very underlying chronic diseases that make individuals most vulnerable to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Indeed, a growing body of research indicates that exercise helps protect against severe COVID-19. (Study Finds Inactivity a Key Risk Factor for Severe COVID -19). Because of the critical role they play, IHRSA supports the efforts of health clubs to remain open in order to serve their local communities ‒ while following appropriate safety and mitigation efforts against COVID-19. We, too, are confident that by taking sound measures, IHRSA can deliver a very successful 2021 International Convention & Trade Show that will have an immensely positive long-term impact on public health ‒ and on the health of the fitness industry.
The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, speakers, and colleagues remain our number one priority. IHRSA continues to closely monitor the situation and city, county, state, and federal health and safety guidelines. By registering and attending IHRSA 2021, you agree to follow all health and safety requirements in place by IHRSA and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) while on the premises and at the event.
We ask all attendees and exhibitors to please understand that it is critical that we all work together to create an environment at IHRSA 2021 that is safe for everyone. It is your cooperation that will enable us all to have a very successful event.
IHRSA will continue to update this page with more detailed information. For additional guidance, please visit the following websites:
Mask policies are fluid, frequently changing, and not entirely clear in the state of Texas. The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas is not requiring masks, however IHRSA is encouraging attendees and exhibitors to wear masks. Individual businesses may have their own policy, so check the requirements for your hotel and for businesses that you may visit.
IHRSA will be requiring all attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 72 hours prior to on-site registration. IHRSA is offering free on-site COVID-19 testing including virology testing (the COVID-19 PCR Test) and Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. We also encourage those who are vaccinated to create a free digital vaccine card with the CLEAR app, however, attendees may also show a hard copy of their vaccination documentation (e.g. CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card).
If you will be requiring testing on site please complete this form so our partner knows when to expect you. Testing hours are listed below:
Monday, October 11 8:00am-5:00pm
Tuesday, October 12 7:00am-6:00pm
Wednesday, October 13 6:30am-6:00pm
Thursday, October 14 6:00am-6:00pm
Friday, October 15 6:00am-4:00pm
This policy will apply to all attendees, speakers, visitors, and exhibitors. IHRSA feels this is the best option to keep attendees healthy during the event and to ensure loved ones are not at risk of infection once attendees return home. Contact us with any questions prior to the event.
Keep in mind that requirements pertaining to your individual travel arrangements may make it necessary for you to present a negative COVID-19 test result. Please check the travel requirements for both your arrival in Dallas and for your return to your home city.
Participants requesting an exemption from this policy due to a medical reason or sincerely held religious or philosophical beliefs must complete a Request for Accommodation form for a path forward to participate in the event.
IHRSA supports vaccination against COVID-19 and strongly believes that vaccination benefits the fitness industry and the individuals and communities it serves. We encourage all IHRSA 2021 attendees and exhibitors to get fully vaccinated. Research shows that vaccines are the very best tool we currently have to prevent infection from COVID-19, to stop its spread ‒ and, ultimately, to help us emerge from a pandemic that has been physically, emotionally, and economically devastating to so many individuals, families, and businesses, including to our own industry.
We encourage all attendees and exhibitors to get fully vaccinated.

IHRSA is constantly reviewing safety and mitigation measures that can be added and implemented at the event. We will make updates on an ongoing basis.
All registrants will receive attendee advisory emails prior to the convention and tradeshow. The most current information will be provided in the advisories. IHRSA will also share updates to event protocols on social media and through the event app on-site. IHRSA will continue to update protocols on the event website and include these updates in our weekly IHRSA 2021 e-newsletter.
IHRSA continues to monitor the impact of the delta variant and other aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the safety and mitigation measures already in place for the convention and tradeshow, IHRSA believes that the steady increase in the number of U.S. adults who have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine is a very positive trend for IHRSA 2021 in October. Right now, 77.8% of all U.S. adults (over the age of 18) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the CDC. In addition, many health experts believe that the current surge could pass relatively quickly. The New York Times recently reported on the retreat of the Delta variant.
We fully intend for IHRSA 2021 to move forward as planned. We do not anticipate the widespread shutdowns that occurred in March 2020 ‒ and we do not anticipate that the City of Dallas or the State of Texas will force us to cancel. The ability to safely host the convention in October with a high degree of certainty was the primary reason for moving IHRSA 2021 from California to Texas.
We cannot overstate the indispensable role that health clubs play in the ongoing effort to keep people healthy and safe from the very underlying chronic diseases that make individuals most vulnerable to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. IHRSA supports the efforts of health clubs to remain open and serve their local communities ‒ while following appropriate safety and mitigation efforts against COVID-19. We, too, are confident that by taking sound measures, IHRSA can deliver a very successful 2021 International Convention & Trade Show that will have an immensely positive long-term impact on public health ‒ and on the health of the fitness industry. Today, more than ever, the fitness industry is essential to public health. Together, we can remain strong.
